The usual activities of the Hostel were maintained. interesting development in the autumn was the division of the residents into three groups for athletic purposes and the hold- ing of a triangular contest, which led to the discovery of some talent.
No serious illness was contracted at the Hostel during the year.
Many improvements have been carried out during the year, notably the re-construction of the kitchen quarters and the in- stallation of modern sanitary conveniences on the ground floor. A motor cycle shed has been erected, and arrangements have been made for a laundry on the premises.

The Hall was opened officially by His Excellency The Governor, Sir Cecil Clementi, on 16th December, 1929. opening was attended by a representative gathering of University men and other friends. His Excellency, in his speech, showed evidently how pleased he was to see this new extension of the University in which he took so much personal interest. Professor Middleton Smith, in a graceful address, welcomed the Hostel and its staff into the University.
The Hostel was erected mainly for Catholic students attend- ing the University, and its cost was defrayed by the Jesuit Fathers. The welcome into the University received by them is very highly appreciated and they hope that their work on behalf of the University will amply justify that welcome.

The first students came in on 2nd January, 1930. accommodation available for students was at once filled up, though later, at the end of the first term, some either gave up the University, or went to live at home, while a few new students came in.

only about 35 made it difficult to get a corporate spirit infused at the beginning, as was evidenced by the failure to make full use of the available athletic material in the Inter-Hostel sports. This corporate spirit has grown splendidly since then.
Considerable interest was shown in the various lectures
given at the Hostel. More and more use is being made of the Library. Examination results were not as good as might be, and as was expected, for there was plenty of good work put in during the year.
On the whole a successful year was passed.

REPORT OF THE HONG KONG UNIVERSITY UNION FOR THE YEAR 1930-1931.
I have great pleasure in presenting to you the Report of the Union for the year 1930-1931.
The membership of the Union has been increasing since the past year with the result that the entrance fees and subscrip- tions now amount to the sum of $8,470. Despite the fall of the dollar, our financial position has been sound and we are able to show in our Income and Expenditure Account for the year ending 31st, December, 1930, a surplus of $1,526.32. At the beginning of the year, $5,000 of the Union funds have already been set aside in the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank as a Reserve Fund.
For the satisfactory financial position which we have been brought into, we wish to record our indebtedness to the Hon. Treasurer, Mr. W. B. Finnigan, and also to Mr. S. V. Boxer who took over the
onerous duties of Treasurer when Mr. Finnigan was away on leave. We thank them for their keen interest in the Union and their services which have always proved invaluable to us.
Our thanks are due to Mr. Loke Wan Yat for his kind donation of $300 to the Union, and also to those gentlemen who had donated very generously towards our Sports Fund.
With regard to our social activities, the Union had a very successful year.
Several tea parties were held among which was
